Enforcement has concentrated on the people and businesses organizing, promoting or collecting payments for unauthorized gambling. The AJ has opened administrative and criminal proceedings involving online sports betting, virtual bingo and gambling promoted through social media and messaging platforms.
Offshore casinos provide no local consumer protection. A Bolivian customer cannot ask the AJ to enforce an offshore casino’s withdrawal rules, reverse a confiscation decision or resolve a bonus dispute. Any complaint would depend on the operator, its contractual terms and the authority that issued its foreign licence.
Bolivia does license certain land-based gambling activities. A physical casino or gaming hall should still be checked against the AJ’s current operator records rather than assumed to be legal because it has a public venue or recognizable name.
